Physical security remains one of the most important areas for any business – just consider that the global security market was sized at approximately $117.7 billion last year and is expected to grow at a rate of more than 8% each year until 2030.
While businesses are continuing to spend, the focus (especially in today’s economic climate) is on return on investment and ensuring that ROI in the longer-term. This certainly isn’t easy with the convergence of physical and cyber security, and the pace of change when it comes to the threat landscape.
As a market leader when it comes to integrated access control and security systems, this is something that our integrators, partners and customers continue to ask us about.
We’ve put the following three recommendations together to help overcome the challenge of getting the most from your security system and ensuring its longevity.
#1 Always consider the bigger picture
Just as the security threat evolves, so too do your requirements and the hardware and software needed to meet them. When designing (or refreshing) your security system consider this one key word: integration.
Many solutions on the market today are fit for purpose but offer nothing in terms of scalability or adaptability. Integriti from Inner Range integrates with hundreds of third-party products that enables you to create a sophisticated security ecosystem that addresses your current requirements and provides the basis to expand to include your future requirements.
Examples of integrations include CCTV, visitor management, lift management, building automation, compliance, HR, payroll, health & safety.
Integriti also enables you to manage your entire security system from one platform – making the lives of your operations and security personnel a little easier and the job more effective.
#2 Choose the right partners
This recommendation isn’t unique to security but important to say, nonetheless. Work with a security partner, be it installer, integrator or consultant, that understands your business, your security challenges and your future requirements.
They should also be keeping an eye on the latest advancements in the industry, making recommendations to you and helping you keep your eye on the big picture (see #1) by proactively looking at integrations (and integration opportunities) and where solutions like Integriti can add value to your business.
#3 Keep cyber security in mind
As physical and cyber security become more interconnected, you should consider how this affects the physical security products that you use. Have they been designed with cyber security in mind? Are they open to threat? Or can they be used to bolster both your physical and cyber security posture?
A good example of this is our mobile access offering – IR Mobile Access. We’re taking security to the next level by using the actual hardware controller to create, deliver and store all user data, security keys, mobile credentials and invitations – and not storing anything in the cloud. With the hardware installed on-site within organisations in a secure environment, the risk of a cyber attack / loss of vital data is minimised.
As a business, we are focused on mitigating the risk of cyber attacks and keeping our customers safe. With that in mind, we ensure all of our products are cyber secure, we’ve developed installation hardening guides for Inner Range systems for our partners, and when it comes to our cloud services, we host them in a secure cloud environment, certified to ISO standards, as well as CSA, ITAR, CJIS, HIPAA and IRS 1075.
